Personal Multitasking Paragraph

 

            At my current job, I found myself “multitasking” quite a bit.  There are times where I have to call doctor’s offices to verify prescriptions while simultaneously typing a prescription on my screen.  Actually talking to an individual on the other side of the phone while typing up a prescription on my screen all while writing down the notes on the hardcopy of the script I received is an actual example of doing two things at once.  But that explains why my inputting accuracy was not the greatest my first year.  Since there are times where it gets busy I figured being able to juggle two small tasks at once would show my ability to perform multiple tasks at once when in reality I am sacrificing the accuracy of my work by trying to do multiple things at once.  The sad thing is it will only decrease the patient’s wait time by forty-five seconds assuming it doesn’t get re-routed to me due to the fact I messed up on the prescription somewhere.  Also when our drug order comes in and I am unpacking it and finalizing the invoices, I find myself trying to fill the prescriptions as soon as they release so it seems I am doing the drug order while filling prescriptions.  I do not always do this, because the reality of the situation is that it would be more efficient to unpack the entire order then fill the released medication. Although it seems like some orders get done faster in the long run, it is not the most efficient way to work. This last one is not my fault. However, Walmart require technician’s to do company enforced Pharmacy Technician computer based learning on thing that do not pertain to us.  It is not required by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or anything, they are simply computer based wastes of time.  Since we cannot take breaks, we have to find time to do these while working so I would have to bag prescriptions while looking over at the computer to do my CBL’s.  The more efficient route would to be to designate times to do them so one task can be focused on at a time but you know, who am I to a billion dollar company such as Walmart?
